We work to advance gender equity by responding to urgent needs in communities, through national advocacy and grassroots initiatives.
YWCA of India has its headquarters in New Delhi and functions through its 87 member associations across the country. We aim at working for the marginalized population, especially focusing on women, youth and children, so that they are able to realize their rights, influence decision making processes and transform power structures.
The IGH, as it is popularly called, is a social enterprise of the YWCA of India. The IGH is a budget-friendly guest house that caters a safe space for guests from all walks of life. IGH is most popular for its convenient location with easy accessibility to public transport, restaurants and attractions like the India Gate and Parliament House. Proximity to the main metro stations and a walk away from the Connaught Place- a prime shopping location, is one of the many reasons guests prefer IGH.
Taxis and other public transport are available on stepping out of the IGH gates. Its cosy and friendly ambience makes it a home away from home for its visitors. IGH is 1km away from shivaji stadium metro station, 5 km from New Delhi Railway Station and 16 km from the Indira Gandhi Airport.
The International Guest House started its operation in 1962 with the purpose of providing a centrally located transit facility at reasonable rates to cater to all income groups. Falling under the aegis of the YWCA of India, it is a social enterprise from which the income is utilized for YWCA community development programmes. There is always an influx of tourists and guests due to its location and services.

Nestled in the blue Nilgiri mountains and only a few minutes from the city centre, ANANDAGIRI is an intrinsic part of the Nilgiri’s heritage of which the local population is proud and supportive. It offers a breathtaking view from its red-roofed cottages which are surrounded by lush gardens and flowers. A miniature train piles from Mettupalayam to Ootacamund via Coonoor. The nearest airport is Coimbatore.
ANANDAGIRI was started as a Training Centre in 1929 by Ms. Elisabeth Wilson, who was the National General Secretary of the YWCA of India, Burma and Ceylon at that time. It stands as a landmark of the first fifty years of the YWCA of India’s work in India, Burma and Ceylon on the completion of which it was gifted to the association by friends from the YWCA of USA. For a short while it was requisitioned by the WAC (1) and the army was responsible for laying its modern sanitary drainage and water systems. Today “ANANDAGIRI” has grown into one of the YWCA’s popular Holiday Homes. Interesting to note is that this property was originally the Nilgiri Brewery and for proof of this one only has to scratch the ground to find broken pieces of beer bottles!

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas beside the eternal green Naini Lake that was once the abode of a mighty glacier, “Fairhavens” provides the much wanted respite from the rich-of-the-mill hotels. Built in 1924 in the splendour of stone and wood, it perpetuates the great colonial heritage in which character and cultivated life-style are the basic standards of hospitality. It has two acres of undulating terrace gardens which are idyllic in itself. A 10 minutes walk from the Bus Stand, a quick drive by car and a couple of minutes walk from the Mall, its convenient location makes it even more attractive for the tourist. It is 55 km from the Pant Nagar Airport and 35 km from Kathgodam Railway Station.
FAIRHAVENS was initially used as a centre for Nainital YWCA members to meet in. When the membership drastically fell, “FAIRHAVENS” was entrusted to the YWCA of India in 1968 which ran it as a full fledged Holiday Home under the management of an appointed Project Secretary. In the year 1995 in respect of the modernisation and improvements required in running their Holiday Home, the YWCA of India licensed the management of “FAIRHAVENS” to NEXUS Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. for a period of ten years. NEXUS Enterprises have done wonders with refurbishing and renovating “FAIRHAVENS”. The YWCA of India can certainly look forward to an asset when its management reverts to the YWCA of India in the year 2004.
