YWCA International Guest House - New Delhi

Brief History

The International Guest House started its operation in 1962 with the purpose of providing a centrally located transit facility atreasonable rates to cater to all income groups. Falling under the aegis of the YWCA of India, it is a social enterprise from which theincome is utilized for YWCA community development programmes. There is always an influx of tourists and guests due to its location andservices.

Location

The IGH, as it is popularly called, is a social enterprise of the YWCA of India. The IGH is a budget-friendly guest house that caters asafe space for guests from all walks of life. IGH is most popular for its convenient location with easy accessibility to public transport,restaurants and attractions like the India Gate and Parliament House. Proximity to the main metro stations and a walk away from theConnaught Place- a prime shopping location, is one of the many reasons guests prefer IGH. Taxis and other public transport are available on stepping out of the IGH gates. Its cosy and friendly ambience makes it a home away from homefor its visitors. Anandagiri - Ooty

Location

Nestled in the blue Nilgiri mountains and only a few minutes from the city centre, ANANDAGIRI is an intrinsic part of the Nilgiri’sheritage of which the local population is proud and supportive. It offers a breathtaking view from its red-roofed cottages which aresurrounded by lush gardens and flowers. A miniature train piles from Mettupalayam to Ootacamund via Coonoor. The nearest airport isCoimbatore.

Brief History

ANANDAGIRI was started as a Training Centre in 1929 by Ms. Elisabeth Wilson, who was the National General Secretary of the YWCA of India,Burma and Ceylon at that time. It stands as a landmark of the first fifty years of the YWCA of India’s work in India, Burma and Ceylon onthe completion of which it was gifted to the association by friends from the YWCA of USA. For a short while it was requisitioned by theWAC (1) and the army was responsible for laying its modern sanitary drainage and water systems. Today “ANANDAGIRI” has grown into one ofthe YWCA’s popular Holiday Homes. Interesting to note is that this property was originally the Nilgiri Brewery and for proof of this oneonly has to scratch the ground to find broken pieces of beer bottles!

Burns and Galway House, Kolkata

Brief History

YWCA of India Burns House was constructed in 1878. The building was declared a heritage building in the year 2001. This building holds asignificant place in the history of the YWCA Movement in India as this was the first declared Headquarters of YWCA India, Burma and Ceylonin the year 1896.

The project is situated at 134 S.N. Banerjee Road, Kolkata – 700013. The project is at the distance of 0 km from Dwarka ExpressWay. The hotel building is located 5.3 km from Howrah railway station and 2.5 km from Sealdah Railway station.Nearest Airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at Dumdum which is 15.7 km from the Project. Working Women’s Hostel, Chandigarh

Facilities

The Hostel has accommodation for 64 residents and since inception has metits full capacity due to its homely and caring atmosphere.The YWCA Project also has a multipurpose Hall which is used for conferences, workshops, social gatherings and various events by the YWCA and its network partners.

Brief History

The YWCA Project Chandigarh emerged out of a vision of Chandigarh Administration which sanction a piece of land in 1980’s in one the poshlocalities of Sector 11B for use of community services. In 1982 the YWCA converted this vision into action by constructing a Hostel for women and girls through the support of the social welfare Board. The Hostel has since then been providing safe and secure accommodation for working women and students living away from home for work or for furthering their education.

Fairhavens - Nainital

Location

Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas beside the eternal green Naini Lake that was once the abode of a mighty glacier, “Fairhavens” provides the much wanted respite from the rich-of-the-mill hotels. Built in 1924 in the splendour of stone and wood, it perpetuates the great colonial heritage in which character and cultivated life-style are the basic standards of hospitality. It has two acres of undulating terrace gardens which are idyllic in itself. A 10 minutes walk from the Bus Stand, a quick drive by car and a couple of minutes walk from the Mall, its convenient location makes it even more attractive for the tourist. It is 55 km from the Pant Nagar Airport and 35 km from Kathgodam Railway Station.

Pine Retreat - Mussoorie

Brief History

The foundation stone of “YWCA of Mussoorie Doon View,” now known as Pine Retreat, was laid in 1916. Originally purchased by Mr. Smith, the property initially operated as a summer school. During World War II, it served as a Leave Centre for military personnel. Following the war, it was handed over to the YWCA of India, which has since managed it as a Holiday Home.

Surrounded by majestic Pine trees, snuggled amidst the picturesque ‘Shivaliks’ from where it overlooks the Doon Valley, as ‘Doon View’ offers its guests a panoramic view of the Dehra Dun which transforms into a fairy land at night.Though a5 minutes walk away from the Mall, it prides itself for its peaceful ambience. The nearest Railway Station and Airport is at Derma Dun.Mussoorie is very well connected to Dehra Dun by regular bus and taxi services.

Wyoming - Coonoor

Brief History

Established in 1905, Wyoming was originally used as a Missionary Home before being run by the YWCA of Coonoor as both a hostel and a guest house. In 1969, ownership was transferred to the YWCA of India, under whose management it has since operated as a Holiday Home.

Nestled on a 1.6-acre wooded estate in the heart of Coonoor, Wyoming offers a breathtaking view of tea plantations and the rolling Blue Mountains. The holiday home’s old-world charm and serene atmosphere continue to attract both tourists and transit guests. Located near several renowned residential schools, Wyoming also frequently hosts school and college excursion groups at subsidized rates. Conveniently situated just 1 km from the Coonoor Railway Station and Bus Stand, Coonoor is well connected to Mettupalayam by rail, with the nearest airport located in Coimbatore.
